Mixing Tanks:
We have performed many large scale simulations for pharmaceutical mixing tanks to determine quality of mixing. This includes an analysis of various tank geometries, different impellers, rotation rates, injection location and rates etc. We have performed analyses on tanks ranging from 100 L to 40,000 L to optimize design to meet design goals. As a result, we have helped clients pick the right combination of tanks, impellors, configurations, and conditions to result in optimal mixing patterns. This has significantly minimized cost and overall time by avoiding large scale prototyping or real time mixing runs. We also have screened poor design choices that result in a huge savings vs. build-and-test methods.

Reactions:
CFD can also be utilized to analyze reactions in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. This includes reactions with multiple reactions and products, thermally active or deactivated reactions, differing reaction rates, and the effects of catalysts. These analyses can be done in conjunction with other processes like mixing and heating. Such analyses also minimize prototyping and can significantly reduce time and cost in selecting appropriate materials, configurations, and mechanisms.
