JLR uses ANSYS/LS-DYNA, which combines the LS-DYNA explicit finite element program with the powerful pre- and postprocessing capabilities of the ANSYS program. The explicit method of solution used by LS-DYNA provides fast solutions for short-time, large-deformation dynamics, quasi-static problems with large deformations and multiple nonlinearites, and complex contact/impact problems. Using this integrated product, we can model your structure in ANSYS, obtain the explicit dynamic solution via LS-DYNA, and review results using the standard ANSYS postprocessing tools.
We can also transfer geometry and results information between ANSYS and ANSYS/LS-DYNA to perform sequential implicit-explicit / explicit-implicit analyses, such as those required for droptest, springback and other applications.
ANSYS/LS-Dyna is the premier software for the simulation of explicit dynamic engineering problems. Leveraging industry-leading explicit dynamic technology from the Livermore Software Technology Corporation (LSTC), ANSYS/LS-Dyna integrates best-in-class explicit dynamic technology with the ANSYS interface, enabling robust pre and post processing. These enable the fast, effective solution of complicated engineering problems involving large deformation, nonlinear material behavior, and multibody contact typically characterized by transient impact.
ANSYS/LS-Dyna quickly performs difficult dynamic nonlinear calculations such as deformations, loads and collision-related stresses. These capabilities make it ideal for performing simulations involving metal forming, crash dynamics, drop tests, and rapid manufacturing process -- explicitly, short durations events.
In addition, ANSYS/LS-Dyna provides advanced design optimization. All relevant ANSYS/LS-Dyna input can be expressed parametrically. "What-if?" and trade-off studies, as well as sensitivity analyses of response quantities with respect to shape, size, and material can be conducted entirely within the application. The introduction of robust optimization into designs further streamlines product development.
ANSYS/Drop Test module provides users with a customized graphical user interface (GUI) that greatly simplifies the simulation of product drop testing using ANSYS/LS-Dyna. Built on the robust, flexible architecture of core ANSYS technology, this module offers users streamlined dynamic impact (e.g. drop test) analysis capabilities.
This software module has strong applications in most consumer product industries, whether the design challenge comes from consumer misuse/abuse or product transport concerns. Companies that take advantage of drop test simulations ensure reliability and durability throughout a product's life cycle.
